ATHENS — Iranian leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, speaking publicly for the first time in six months, said Tuesday that he has prayed for the death of President Reagan.
The 88-year-old cleric is reported to be ailing, but his voice sounded strong.
“The best prayer for the likes of the American President and his servants such as (Iraqi President) Saddam (Hussein) is that God should give them death,” he said. “Every day that passes for the likes of them, their hell becomes worse.”
Khomeini’s speech, broadcast on Tehran radio and monitored in Athens, came on the day of Eid el Fitr, the festival that marks the end of the Muslim holy month Ramadan.
