Malaysia officials say rubber prices, at an eight-year high, will surge further because of fear of AIDS and a boom in the tire business. “The fundamentals are very strong. It will stay that way until the end of the year,” said Datuk Lim Keng Yaik, Malaysia’s Primary Industries Minister. Malaysia is the world’s chief producer of natural rubber and supplies 70% of the world’s latex.
