Light Sentence for Israel Soldier

JERUSALEM — An Israeli army court-martial gave a soldier a 35-day suspended sentence for opening fire against orders during a shooting in which a Palestinian was killed, the army said today.
The announcement came as the army lifted a five-day curfew on Nablus, the West Bank’s largest city. The army said the soldier opened fire against orders in the West Bank village of Azmut on Monday. A Palestinian was killed and three others were wounded in the incident near a checkpoint. The army did not say whether the soldier was responsible for either the killing or the injuries. The officer in charge was reprimanded, the army said.
