Algeria, Morocco Will Restore Diplomatic Ties

RABAT, Morocco — Algeria and Morocco decided Monday to restore diplomatic relations after 12 years of bitter political disputes.
A communique released in both countries said it is hoped that the decision will help bring about a solution to the Western Sahara conflict. The neighbors have been at odds since 1976, when Algerian-backed Polisario guerrillas began fighting Morocco in the mineral-rich desert territory.
