The United Rubber Workers union was in the second day of a walkout against Firestone while a strike deadline drew closer at Goodyear Tire & Rubber. URW and Goodyear representatives were scheduled to meet this morning, hours before the noon deadline for 15,000 workers at 11 Goodyear plants. It was not clear Monday how many plants would participate if a walkout occurred. The union set a strike deadline after Goodyear balked at going back to the bargaining table in light of worker rejection of a tentative contract settlement.
