Leuzinger d. Campbell Hall, 7-15, 15-8, 15-4, 15-9--Despite 18 kills and 14 stuff blocks from senior middle blocker Tim Sutton, and 31 set assists and 18 service points from junior setter Ty Leatherman, Campbell Hall lost in the first-round 3-A Division match at Campbell Hall.
The Vikings (16-4), however, received a strong performance from sophomore middle blocker Will Fruehling, who had eight kills and five blocks.
“We just didn’t capitalize on their mistakes,” Campbell Hall Coach Kris Ragland said. “I didn’t have enough experience out on the court for a playoff game.”
The Vikings, who tied for first in the Camino Real League, have only two seniors.
Glendale d. Canyon, 15-6, 15-6, 15-4--The Cowboys, in their first year of interscholastic competition, were dominated throughout the first-round 3-A Division match at Glendale.
Canyon’s David Kellar had three kills, but the Cowboys were unable to mount a serious threat on Glendale, the second-place team from the Pacific League.
“We’re a first-year team, so this is all new to us,” Canyon Coach Ardyce Masters said.
Canyon (7-7, 6-2) won the Golden League title.
