Pope Counsels Against Cocaine

SANTA CRUZ, Bolivia — Pope John Paul II journeyed today to the heart of cocaine country and told Bolivians to use all their Christian strength to reject drug trafficking and corruption.
Addressing Roman Catholic lay workers in this frontier city, the Pope stressed the need to live a virtuous life in building a just society. People have a “a Christian duty” to strengthen public morality, the pope said, appealing to his listeners to “reject with energy” corruption, contraband activities and drug trafficking.
