Local News in Brief : Girl, 9, and Mother Killed

A gunman shot a woman and her 9-year-old daughter to death Thursday and critically wounded the girl’s father in their Pico Rivera home, authorities said.
The woman’s father discovered the bodies at 9:55 a.m. after her employer called because she didn’t show up for work, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Eric Smith said.
The bodies of Susana Parocua, 33, and her daughter Vanessa were found inside the home with gunshot wounds in the chest. The weapon believed used, a 9-millimeter pistol, was found near the bodies, Smith said.
The father, Antonio Parocua, 33, was shot in the stomach and was in critical condition at Alhambra Community Hospital, Smith said.
A motive for the shootings had not been determined.
