Conrail will buy 50 high-horsepower locomotives, Consolidated Rail said. The technologically advanced locomotives, worth $65 million, will include 25 from a General Motors and 25 from General Electric. They are to be delivered in the first half of 1989. The rail equipment features computer-controls which monitor performance and fuel efficiency.
