The 10th annual Cop’er Bowl, a football showdown between the Santa Ana and Orange police officers to benefit local charities, is set for 7 p.m. Friday.
The “Hogs,” Santa Ana’s team, are being coached in their off-duty hours by Chuck Gallo and his staff at Mater Dei High School, while the Orange “Bulldogs” are practicing after hours under the guidance of Bill Backstrom and his staff from El Modena High School.
Last year, the Bulldogs won, 20-0.
Proceeds from the game will go to each police department association’s fund for widows and orphans, benefiting survivors of police officers killed in the line of duty, as well as to college and high school athletic programs, Little League teams and to a general athletic fund for youth in both cities.
Tickets, $5 for adults, are available through both police departments. Children under 12 will be admitted free.
