74-Year-Old Man Dies as Fire, Smoke Fill Bedroom

A 74-year-old man died when he was overcome by smoke Tuesday night in a bedroom fire apparently ignited by an overturned lamp, Los Angeles fire officials said.
The name of the victim, who apparently was alone in the house at 3612 N. Mandeville Canyon Road, was not released.
Four engine companies controlled the blaze, which caused about $5,000 in damage, officials said.
