While Nostradamus-mania sweeps through Los Angeles this week, UFO hysteria is sweeping through two local television stations. Since Sunday, KTTV Channel 11 and KNBC Channel 4 have been airing special multipart mini-docs on alien visitors from outer space, even though none have been reported recently in local airspace. So why the sudden interest in strange lights from the heavens? Hint 1: May ratings sweeps. Hint 2: NBC’s lavish, frightening science-fiction miniseries “Something Is Out There” and a week of outer space movies on KTTV’s 8 p.m. movie.
