The winners of Saturday’s two games advance to the Southern California double-elimination regionals. Rancho Santiago, which plays host to one of the regionals, will face the lowest-seeded team coming out of the wild-card round. Palomar (27-11), the fifth-seeded team, plays fourth-seeded Los Angeles Harbor (29-14) also at Rancho Santiago.

The second Southern California Regional will be at Cerritos.

College of the Canyons (32-6) plays the highest-seeded team coming out of the wild-card round and El Camino (29-14) plays Cypress (32-9).

The winner of each regional will advance to the double-elimination state tournament at UC Irvine May 27-29 against the two Northern California winners.

The softball pairings were also announced Monday. Saddleback, the defending state champion and Orange Empire Conference champion this season, was seeded third despite being ranked first in the state most of the season.

Palomar, the preseason favorite to win the state title, and Fullerton, a traditional softball power, were seeded first and second, respectively.

Saddleback qualified for the playoffs for the first time in school history last year.

The top 16 teams in Southern California open in eight single-elimination games Wednesday at 3 p.m. The eight winners meet Saturday at 1 p.m. in single games that start four best of three series. The series continue Sunday starting at noon, with a second game if needed Sunday.
