The Maquina Musical program begins a 10-city tour in Los Angeles this weekend at Lincoln Park, Mission and Valley boulevards.
The free concerts today and Sunday will feature rhythms of crossover, traditional and contemporary Latino music by headliners Brenda K. Starr, Stevie B., Tower of Power and Tierra. (On Sunday, War will substitute for Tower of Power.)
The Wild Cards, a Los Angeles-based band, will also appear, and mariachis will perform both days. Hours for the concerts, which celebrate Cinco de Mayo, are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Sponsors are Miller beer as a part of its community-involvement program, and KPWR-FM.
And in San Diego, 200 Latino entertainers--musicians, dancers and equestrian groups--will be performing today and Sunday at the annual Cinco de Mayo Fiesta in Old Town State Historic Park.
Food kiosks will line the streets and plazas and continuous entertainment will be featured on five separate stages throughout the park from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. today; noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.
Highlighting the fiesta will be the performances of the Flying Indians of Veracruz, an acrobatic/dance group from Mexico, at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. each day.
The event is sponsored by Old Town State Historic Park and the Bazaar del Mundo, an international marketplace in the park.
