$140,000 Airplane Stolen

Los Angeles police were searching for clues Friday in the theft of a $140,000 airplane from Van Nuys airport.
The plane’s owner discovered the theft Wednesday, and police said Friday it was unclear whether the eight-seat Cessna 421-C had been flown or trucked out of the airfield.
Airport spokesman Bob Hayes said the plane’s owner, Neil Baron, had last seen the plane at its tie-down spot near California Aircraft Exchange, on the northwest side of the airport, on April 21. The plane, which Baron described as a sophisticated aircraft, is white with black and gray trim. The wing number is N976-D.
Police said thefts of planes are rare but declined to comment further on the case.
