A Connecticut man was being held in lieu of a $1-million bond after he was charged Friday with being a fugitive from justice in the abduction of his infant daughter from Orange County last month, the Hartford Courant reported.
Police in Newtown, Conn., said Gennaro Peter Sorrentino, 61, was arrested at his Newtown home Friday on a warrant from Superior Court in Danbury, Conn. The warrant was based on information from the Orange County district attorney’s office, police told the Courant.
Sorrentino, also known as Jerry Fiori, came out of the house and surrendered after officers had surrounded his home, police said. Police said Sorrentino’s 19-month-old daughter was not injured and was taken into protective custody by the state. Further details on where the child was abducted from or the whereabouts of her mother were not immediately available late Friday.
Sorrentino was being held at the town police department until arraignment Monday in Superior Court in Danbury.
