Graffiti Around the Southland: Youthful Art or Vandalism?
Graffiti is an assault on our quality of life and should not be considered a misdemeanor. The police should stake out several areas to catch these self-centered egomaniacs and to make an example of them. The courts should impose a mandatory sentence on them during which time they would be assigned to clean up their mess around town.
Fines could be imposed on their parents if they are minors. Furthermore, legislators could ban the sale of spray paint cans under certain conditions.
We have condoned this unfortunate situation for so long that it has been accepted as part of our daily life. It is now time to end this form of visual pollution.
