LaFrania West of Grossmont was the county leader in the 200 meters (25.9 seconds) and No. 2 in the long jump (17-feet 5 1/2-inches) before Saturday’s Claremont Invitational at Pomona College. She improved on her mark in the 200 and had the farthest triple jump of the meet. West, a junior, won the 200 in a wind-aided 25.10 and had a wind-aided jump of 38-8. Her best legal jump was 37-7 3/4. West also won the long jump with a legal 17-3 3/4.
Morse’s Angel Leath won the long jump Thursday with a 1988 county best 17-7 in a 78-49 Eastern League victory over Patrick Henry. Teammate Stacy Thompson improved her county best in the triple jump from 38-7 3/4 to 39-2.
SOFTBALL
Senior shortstop Angie Davenport of Christian was 5 for 7 with 2 home runs, 3 runs batted in and 6 runs scored in a 31-5 City Central League victory over Lincoln last Friday.
