Reaction to Settlement in the Stun-Gun Case

With regard to the stun-gun case in Huntington Beach and the $300,000 settlement: Howard Subnick is apparently under the false impression that the five plaintiffs suddenly became wealthy with this settlement.

First, consider the fact that 40% of the $300,000, right off the top, went to the attorney representing the five. That left $120,000 divided five ways. Of the $24,000 each received, there were medical bills and lost wages. In my son’s case, he had in excess of $8,000 in medical bills and 10 months of lost wages. There was no profit made.

If the Huntington Beach Police Department was not guilty of any wrongdoing as Subnick stated, I find it hard to believe that the attorney for the city of Huntington Beach was so eager to settle for $300,000 and that the use of the stun gun was suspended.

It is a real travesty of justice that this case was not able to go to trial because the judge did not want to hear the case. The truth is not known and justice has not prevailed.
