‘Hip Hip Hurrah’
Sweden-Norway-Denmark, 1986 ,
110 minutes , 7:45 p.m . Swedish film maker Kjell Grede contrasts the bright sunlight of a 19th-Century painters’ commune with the suffering its members must experience for their art. A truly heavy-handed exploration complete with a metaphor about a bird that can’t fly. This way of life literally leads to madness, when touching the soul of creativity would have addressed the situation eloquently.
