‘If the Sun Never Returns’
Switzerland-France, 1987, 116 minutes , 5:30 p.m . A dour parable in which a mystic in a remote Swiss village predicts that following a cloud-covered winter, there will be a sunless spring. Film maker Claude Goretta properly seizes upon the dormant fears of the secluded farmers and paints them in somber tones. But from such a proposition, any conclusion would prove a disappointing anti-climax.
