Raytheon Co.’s earnings increased 22.6% to $113.3 million on sales of $1.9 billion in its first quarter, compared to $101.8 million on sales of $1.7 billion for the same period last year, the firm said. The Lexington, Mass., defense contractor and energy company, said all its business segments contributed to the improved performance, with two firms--Beech Aircraft and Energy Services--cited as responding particularly well to new market strategies and cost reductions. The company said its overall performance also was affected by higher sales and operating income and lower taxes.
