Community College Roundup : Hamelin’s Homers Lift Rancho Santiago

Bob Hamelin hit two home runs to lead Rancho Santiago College to a 10-5 victory over American River Thursday in the first round of the Channel Coast baseball tournament at Santa Barbara City College.
Hamelin has 15 home runs this season, tying the single-season school record set by Ruben Gonzales in 1986. Rancho Santiago is 21-3.
In the Saddleback tournament:
Saddleback 8, East Los Angeles 3--Jeff Walters and Donnie Harrell each drove in two runs as host Saddleback (12-12) won its opening-round game.
Golden West 7, San Diego Mesa 3--Jim Buccheri was 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored and 4 stolen bases for Golden West (13-8). Tom Smythe and Terry Reichert drove in two runs each for Golden West.
In the Alan Hancock tournament:
Cypress 17, Cuesta 9--Bob Thome went 2 for 5 with 2 home runs and 4 RBIs as Cypress (20-5) won its second-round game at Elks Park in Santa Maria.
