The Lazers hope to take another step toward postseason play when they meet the Minnesota Strikers tonight at 7 at the Forum.
With seven games left in the Major Indoor Soccer League season--six against Western Division teams--the Lazers have their best chance to make the playoffs in three years. They finished the 1984-85 season 24-24, then lost three straight to the Baltimore Blast in the quarterfinals.
With their 8-2 victory over the San Diego Sockers on Sunday, the Lazers (25-24) set a club-record for wins in a season. The schedule, however, has been increased to 56 games since 1985.
The Lazers are one-half game behind second-place Kansas City and lead the Tacoma Stars by one game. The Wichita Wings are also in the race--the top four teams in each division qualify for the playoffs--as they trail the Stars by two games.
