Supporters of slain Superior Court judicial candidate Julian Pierce asked North Carolina Gov. James G. Martin to convene a special legislative session to allow another minority candidate to seek the post. Martin was noncommittal after the closed meeting in his office. He said he would consult with legislative leaders, and is expected to reach a decision next week. Pierce, a Lumbee Indian attorney, was shot to death last week in racially troubled Robeson County. The killing was believed to have been politically motivated, but now has been attributed to a romantic dispute.
