Culver City : 2nd Firm to Study Intersection

The City Council voted Monday to hire a second traffic engineer to study the Sunkist Park intersection of McDonald Street and Sawtelle Boulevard, which has been barricaded at McDonald Street since September.
Basmaciyan-Darnell Inc., a Costa Mesa traffic engineering firm, will be paid up to $4,800 to study alternatives to the barricade, such as installing a traffic signal, restricting certain turns or permanent blockage.
The barricade at McDonald Street and Sawtelle Boulevard, along with four other barriers, sparked community outrage last September when it diverted traffic onto neighboring streets.
McDonald Street was closed because construction that raised a nearby bridge reduced driver visibility and created a potential hazard at the intersection, city officials said. The city has since dismantled three of the five barricades.
