PHOENIX — Former U.S. Rep. John Rhodes, saying Arizona’s paralysis must end, announced today that he will run for governor in the May 17 recall election.
Rhodes, 71, a Republican who served 30 years in the House of Representatives, said it is time to restore Arizona’s reputation for “doing things right.” Rhodes said he is the Republican Party’s best chance of holding on to the governor’s office, which Republican Evan Mecham won in 1986 and risks losing through recall, impeachment and criminal charges.
