CBS Founder Paley Critically Ill

NEW YORK — William Paley, the 86-year-old founder and chairman of CBS, is critically ill with lung and kidney failure at a hospital, a week after undergoing emergency surgery, the hospital said today.
“He remains critically ill in the (intensive care unit),” said Elizabeth Erlanger, a spokeswoman for New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center. On Sunday, a hospital administrator had reported Paley in satisfactory condition, but Erlanger said he had been in critical condition since gallbladder surgery Feb. 11.
