Local News in Brief : Nurse Strike Ban Extended
- Share via
A Superior Court judge on Thursday extended an order prohibiting 4,000 Los Angeles County nurses from striking.
Judge Miriam Vogel said the walkout would endanger the public’s health and safety. She cited several instances in which hospital services were disrupted during a three-day strike by nurses last month, before a temporary strike ban was issued by the court Jan. 29.
Sharon Gimpe, general manager of the nurses’ union, pledged to appeal the decision. Nurses are still voting on the county’s latest wage offer of a 14.5% pay increase over the next 18 months, which is less than the union requested. The results should be known by Feb. 26, Gimpe said.
