Italian Government Resigns

ROME — Prime Minister Giovanni Goria announced the resignation of Italy’s 47th postwar government today, precipitating a political crisis less than eight months after the last national elections. Goria, at 44 the youngest prime minister in the history of the republic, has been on shaky ground since suffering a series of defeats on various articles and amendments of the finance bill last week.
