Assembly Floor Action: Vietnam: Passed and sent to the Senate on a 63-0 vote a resolution (AJR 58) by Assemblywoman Jackie Speier (D-South San Francisco) expressing legislative support for a statue honoring women veterans to be placed at the Vietnam Memorial in Washington.
Bill Introductions: Fires: AB 3091 by Assemblyman Tom Bane (D-Tarzana) would require the state fire marshal to set minimum safety requirements for security bars, grills and grates to prevent possible accidental deaths and injuries resulting from fires at schools, hospitals and other public facilities.
AIDS: AB 3031-34 by Assembly Speaker Pro Tem Mike Roos (D-Los Angeles) would authorize state university AIDS testing programs, set up AIDS education pilot projects at six community colleges, require employers with more than 50 employees to establish AIDS education programs and add AIDS to continuing schooling requirements for physicians and surgeons.
Fires: AB 3061 by Assemblywoman Cathie Wright (R-Simi Valley) would establish a $2-million pilot training program in Los Angeles County to teach Southern California firefighters how to better cope with fires involving the release of hazardous materials.
Prayer: ACR 109 by Assemblyman Eric Seastrand (R-Salinas) would recognize May 5 as a National Day of Prayer.
Senate Bill Introductions: Credit Cards: SB 1948 by President Pro Tem David A. Roberti (D-Los Angeles) would require credit card forms to be carbonless or not contain a separate piece of paper or carbon that readily identifies the cardholder by name or number.
Judges: SB 1952 by Sen. Ed Davis (R-Valencia) would provide for 108 additional Superior Court judges and 15 additional Municipal Court judges in Los Angeles County.
