THE PREPS : Girls’ Basketball : Newsome Rallies Rancho Alamitos to 56-37 Victory

Jenny Newsome had 23 points and 8 steals Friday night as Rancho Alamitos High School overcame an early deficit for a 56-37 victory over Garden Grove in a Garden Grove League girls’ basketball game at Rancho Alamitos.
Rancho Alamitos outscored Garden Grove, 9-0, during the last four minutes of the first half to take a 21-19 halftime lead. The Vaqueros (7-9, 5-5) then outscored Garden Grove, 20-8, in the third quarter.
Marla Magsig had 11 points for Garden Grove.
In other Garden Grove League games:
La Quinta 59, Santiago 26--Amy Jalewalia scored 20 points and had 8 rebounds to lead La Quinta (17-3, 10-0). Donna Gondringer had 13 points and 10 rebounds for La Quinta, the top-ranked team in the Southern Section 2-A Division.
Bolsa Grande 37, Pacifica 34--Tracy Swatfager, who scored 10 points, made a jump shot with six seconds left to clinch the victory for Bolsa Grande (9-9, 5-5). Liz Flores had 12 points for Bolsa Grande. Pacifica is 0-10 in league play.
Kennedy 43, Los Amigos 38--Michelle Harris and Gina Alcoser each scored 16 points to lead Kennedy (8-9, 7-4) at Los Amigos.
In the Academy League:
Liberty Christian 52, Whitney 43--Heather Cielnicky scored 17 points and Lisa Whitney had 19 rebounds for Liberty Christian (14-1, 9-0).
