Filipino Pirates Seize Oil Tanker; 2 Missing

Two crewmen are feared drowned after being tied up and thrown overboard by pirates who seized an oil tanker in Manila Bay, the Philippine coast guard said Sunday.

About five gunmen seized the tanker at gunpoint on Friday, a coast guard spokesman said, throwing the captain and two other crewmen overboard, but these three were rescued by fishermen.

The spokesman said the hijackers later abandoned the 260-ton tanker Patrick G, owned by a Manila shipping firm and carrying diesel oil. The ship and cargo were recovered but the pirates escaped.
