An abandoned newborn found in a plastic shopping bag under some bushes in Van Nuys was in stable condition Sunday, authorities said.
The baby boy was about an hour old when residents found him Saturday morning in the 13100 block of Margate Street, said Officer Ike Langsam of the Los Angeles Police Department’s North Hollywood Division.
The baby, described as white with dark brown hair and eyes, was taken to AMI-Medical Center of North Hollywood where he was treated for hypothermia, Langsam said. The baby then was transferred to Childrens Hospital of Los Angeles in stable condition, he said.
Police are trying to determine the identity of the newborn’s parents, Langsam said.
