Local News in Brief : Driver Dies as His Van Crosses Road, Hits Rig

A Saugus man was killed early Saturday near Val Verde when his van collided head on with a tractor-trailer carrying groceries, authorities said.
Harvey Clampitt, 36, was eastbound on California 126 near San Martinez Chiquito Road when his van crossed to the wrong side and crashed into the truck, driven by Douglas Williams of Diamond Bar, Highway Patrol Officer Monty Keifer reported.
Clampitt was pronounced dead at the scene, Keifer said.
Williams, 40, was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital in Valencia, where he was listed in fair condition with a knee injury, officials said.
