AND NOW HERE’S THE NEWS: We always figured CDs sounded better than records, but do they smell better too? A&M; Records has at least one CD that does--a new scented CD single of “Everything’s Coming Up Roses” by Black, a group led by English pop singer Colin Vearcombo. The label has pressed 2,000 promotional copies of the rose-scented CD, which have just been mailed out to industry execs (and inserted in this Monday’s copy of Radio and Records magazine). . . . What about those rumors that local boys David + David, whose debut album was a critic’s delight, are breaking up? Not true, insists manager Perry Watts-Russell, who said the duo have a “volatile” relationship, but are expecting to go back to work together later this year. One reason for the delay--David Ricketts has been immersed in an album project with Toni Childs, while David Baerwald has just finished a film script. . . . Chrissie Hynde is now saying that ex-Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr is a permanent member of the Pretenders. “He’s amazing,” she said recently. “The whole thing just feels like James Honeyman Scott’s back.” . . . Meanwhile, the first single by ex-Smith frontman Morrissey--titled “Suede Head”--will be out in England next month.
