A 35-year-old San Diego man was killed Saturday morning after his car overturned on Interstate 5 at the Via De La Valle offramp, California Highway Patrol spokeswoman Marcia Jasinski said.
Darrell Lloyd Simpson was southbound on Interstate 5 about 6 a.m. approaching the Via De La Valle offramp when his car--for reasons unknown--ran off the road and overturned, hitting the Via De La Valle freeway sign, Jasinski said.
Simpson was ejected from the vehicle as it overturned and was pinned underneath it, she said.
He was taken by Life Flight to Scripps Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:30 a.m. after suffering head and chest injuries, Deputy Coroner Jack Larkie said.
