Those TV Film Critics
I hate to break the news to everybody, but Pepsi and Coke aren’t the choices of our new generation . . . it’s Siskel & Ebert.
TV movie critics are the latest heroes on the world’s most thoroughly entertaining medium. There was a time years ago when critics had credentials, and were even considered to be intellectuals.
Today, however, the Siskel & Ebert generation is content with a happy face, an explosive film clip and a 10+ rating. Intellectuals are generally considered to be snobs, and snobs don’t go over very well on the 6 o’clock news.
The problem doesn’t lie with TV critics themselves. They are playing their parts perfectly on a communication medium based on entertainment and imagery.
