Canada won its third World Junior Hockey title, finishing the eight-team tournament undefeated after a 9-1 victory over Poland.
The Soviet Union won the silver medal by beating West Germany, 12-2, in the final game of the 12th annual competition in Moscow.
Finland, the only team to take a point from the Canadians with a 4-4 tie, beat Czechoslovakia for the bronze medal, 2-1.
Sweden was fifth with a 7-5 victory over the United States.
The world title is the first for the Canadian juniors since 1985.
