SAN DIEGO — Gabe Ortiz, San Diego State associate athletic director for business affairs, said he resigned Monday, and will enter into private business.
He said his resignation was effective immediately.
Ortiz said most of the responsibilities for business affairs would be assumed by John Wadas, associate athletic director. A further reorganization of department duties is to be announced at a staff meeting today.
Ortiz, 37, began in the athletic department as business manager in 1973. He had been appointed an associate athletic director in May 1986 after serving several years as an assistant athletic director.
In another departmental move, Rick Taylor, former Arizona State basketball player and member of Kearny High School’s 1974 San Diego Section 2-A championship team, was appointed assistant athletic director for marketing and sales.
Taylor, who played professional basketball in Switzerland for five seasons, had been the general manager of Manchester United, an English sports club, for five years.
