MIDLAND, Mich. — The city Monday began preparing to deport about 60 of an estimated 200 deer in this extensively wooded community.
City officials said deer-car accidents have doubled in recent years, with 60 accidents in 1986--the most recent year for which figures are available. In addition, the deer have made themselves unpopular by munching on flowers, trees and ornamental shrubbery.
During the next 10 weeks, the deer will be trapped, tranquilized and transported to state land in southwestern Roscommon County.
