The investment firm Bear Stearns & Co. said its New York Stock Exchange specialist unit had acquired the NYSE specialist operations of Asiel & Co. Asiel lists 12 NYSE stocks, while Bear Stearns has specialist operations for 35 NYSE stocks and for a number of American Stock Exchange issues. Under the specialist system, which is used by the NYSE, Amex and regional stock exchanges, a single individual or firm acts as a meeting place for buy and sell orders.
