Farmers earned less for their crops last month as prices for raw products declined 3% from November, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Lower prices for oranges, tomatoes, eggs and lettuce contributed most to the decline, which was offset somewhat by higher prices for corn, soybeans and strawberries. Nonetheless, prices of farm commodities generally were 6.7% higher than a year ago, but USDA economists said net cash income, which set a record in 1987, would likely decline slightly in 1988. Consumers will probably see food prices rise by 2% to 4%, compared to a 4% increase in 1987, USDA said.
