Block Rules Out Mayoral Bid

Los Angeles County Sheriff Sherman Block, who earlier this month acknowledged he was considering a challenge to Mayor Tom Bradley in 1989, today announced that he has decided against joining the race that is also expected to include Councilman Zev Yaroslavsky.
Despite a “steady stream” of letters and phone calls urging him to run, Block said, “I just could not convince myself to go for it. From my perspective, the negatives outweighed the positives.” Block said he intends to seek reelection as sheriff in 1990.
