Mid-December Car Sales Slump

DETROIT — Car sales slumped sharply in mid-December while truck sales showed mixed results, according to two of the nation’s largest auto makers.
Industry giant General Motors Corp. said its car sales for the Dec. 11 to Dec. 20 period dropped 15% compared with each day of the same period last year. Truck sales, however, rose 16.6% during the same period. Car sales at No. 2 auto manufacturer Ford Motor Co. dropped 28.4% for the mid-December period on a daily-selling basis while truck sales also fell.
