GARDNERVILLE, Nev. — A 19-month-old boy trapped in a car under water for 20 to 25 minutes came out of a coma and was able to respond to questions today by nodding or shaking his head, a hospital spokesman said.
“It’s really surprising how he is coming around,” Washoe Medical Center spokesman Jack Bulavsky said in describing the responses of Stephen Edmonds, who remains in critical condition at the hospital in Reno 40 miles north of here. Bulavsky said it will take longer to determine whether there was any brain damage due to lack of oxygen.
