Any worries that NBC may have had about the departure of Valerie Harper from her sitcom this season seem to have vanished. Ratings for the retitled “Valerie’s Family” have been so strong (it consistently ranks among the Top 20) that even the show that precedes it on NBC’s Monday night schedule, “Alf,” can joke about her leaving. On Monday’s episode, the furry alien cracked: “I think Valerie should have stayed with her family, but hey, it’s her career.”
