50,000 Flee Toxic Gas in France

NANTES, France — Fifty thousand people were evacuated from their homes and 24 suffered slight injuries when a cloud of highly toxic gas was released into the skies of western France today.
Officials in this port city said ammonium nitrate gas poured into the atmosphere after fire broke out in a silo containing manure. A cloud of gas nine miles long by two miles wide was drifting west of the city towards the coast.
