Norwalk : Post Office Awaits Delivery
The U.S. Post Office on South Clarkdale Avenue in Norwalk will fully reopen next week--if it gets a delivery.
The Oct. 1 earthquake caused an estimated $40,000 in damage to the building, breaking and bending windows, weakening a central support pillar and ripping out sections of the ceiling. To make way for repairs, postal workers moved their operations into large tents in the parking lot for three weeks.
Although the staff returned to the building last week, window service has remained closed because of damage to the 23 plate glass windows lining the front of the building. Postmaster George J. Felber said that if the replacement windows are delivered this week, full service should resume next week.
