Montebello : School Site Lawsuit Settled
The Board of Education of the Montebello Unified School District has agreed to buy a 14.6-acre site for a new school from the Trammell Crow Co. for $10.4 million. The agreement settles a condemnation suit the district filed against the Dallas-based developer last Jan. 9, said district Business Manager Stephen L. Phillips.
Trammell Crow had begun construction of a four-building warehouse and distribution complex on the site and refused to sell when approached by the district. The site is on the northeast corner of Gage and Garfield avenues. The sale price includes compensation for the money Trammell Crow had invested in the project when construction was stopped.
The state allocated $10.4 million to the district to acquire the site. The district plans to build an elementary school two or three years after the purchase is final, Phillips said.
